Saranya comes from the Kasaragod district of Kerala. She is an engineer by degree and became a social entrepreneur in 2018 after returning from the UAE. She is the founder of Papla - a firm that manufactures single use areca leaf compostable tablewares, as an alternative to single use plastic/foam tablewares.

Papla works in rural Kasaragod in Kerala, India. It positively impacts farmers, locals, women, traders, hotel and restaurant chains, tourist places and other institutes by reducing plastic consumption and by generating employment in many trades.
